For most UK buyers the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the easier choice, because you can buy it here with a warranty. The onn 4K Pro is the more open and more capable box on paper, but it is sold by Walmart in the US and we could not confirm UK sales. If you are happy to import, the comparison below shows what you gain and what you take on.
Quick answer: Pick the Fire TV Stick 4K Max if you want a simple UK purchase with local support. Pick the onn 4K Pro if you want Google TV, a built-in Ethernet port and a bigger storage allowance, and you accept importing.
UK availability and import cost
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is sold through the usual UK channels. The onn 4K Pro is a Walmart product, priced at about $60 in the US according to the reviews we checked, and we found nothing confirming UK retail. An import means the power adapter may have the wrong plug, you may owe VAT and a carrier handling fee on arrival, and the warranty is awkward to use. Prices change often, so check current figures yourself.
Operating system
| onn 4K Pro (2026 model) | Fire TV Stick 4K Max | |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Google TV | Fire OS (Android-based) |
| App source | Google Play | Amazon Appstore, plus sideloading |
| Ethernet | Built-in 10/100 port | Needs an adapter |
Google TV has the wider app store, and its apps are normally installed from Google Play. The 4K Max runs Fire OS, which is Android-based and can still install apps from outside Amazon's store. Not every newer Fire TV Stick does: some run Amazon's newer Vega OS and cannot sideload, which is why the model matters. Our sideloading guide has the model list. The 4K Max is a Fire OS model, so it is not affected.
Hardware you can compare
From the sources we checked, the onn 4K Pro has an Amlogic S905X5M chip, 3 GB of RAM, 32 GB of storage, Wi-Fi 6, AV1 support, Widevine L1, a USB 2.0 port and the 10/100 Ethernet port. We could not verify matching figures for the 4K Max, so check Amazon's listing for its memory, storage and Wi-Fi.
Two points help in practice:
- Ethernet. The onn has a port; a stick needs an adapter that plugs into the power connector. For a live TV box that often matters more than raw speed. See Wi-Fi versus Ethernet for streaming.
- Frame rate. UK broadcasts run at 50 Hz, so a box that can switch the TV's refresh rate to match is worth having. Both platforms offer a matching option, but the menus differ and some apps ignore it. See HDR, Dolby Vision and frame rate.
Which should you buy?
- You want a UK warranty and simple setup: Fire TV Stick 4K Max.
- You want Google TV, wired Ethernet and more storage, and will import: onn 4K Pro.
- You want a UK-sold Google TV box: look at the Google TV Streamer instead, covered in Google TV devices compared.
If you are still stuck
Write down which apps you must have, whether the TV is near your router (so a wired connection is possible), and whether you will import. Those three answers usually decide it.
